CAT TALES
Stubbie On The Ledge

My guest bathroom has a door which separates the shower/toilet area from the sink area. There is also a skylight. Because of the skylight opening, there is a ledge above the door which separates the two areas.

When I first captured Stubbie, I released him in the guest bathroom. He immediately jumped up onto the the ledge and perched up there for 2 ½ days. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't drink, he wouldn't come down. He peed and pooped over the edge and down the wall (he held it as long as he could, but he couldn't hold it forever)!

He finally came down and discovered the bed I made for him in a cardboard box. He started eating and drinking a little and he would come out to use the litter box, but for several weeks he just stayed in his box and wouldn't budge.

I discovered that I could reach into the box and pet him. I don't think he liked me reaching in there, but he never hissed or tried to scratch or bite me, and after about 20 seconds of petting he would start purring and start really enjoying it - he was the first of my five new "feral" cats whom I could pet.

After being locked in the bathroom for several weeks, I finally opened the door and gave him free access to the entire house. After I did that, he would never let me get close enough to him to pet him. Last week, he finally (after about 4 months) decided it was okay for me to pet him, and he is once again enjoying it.
